The JWUltra is 30 mile trail run with a 3 x 10 mile relay run along the canal tow path from Stratford-upon-Avon to Bournville station in Birmingham. This will be the 10th running of a race which was intended as a one off event.
The JWUltra is held in memory of John Ward one of the founders of Bournville Harriers Running Club, and mentor and friend to Mark Lynock, the JW race director.
John was an ultra runner who had completed Comrades marathon once and was in training to do the reverse route. John died suddenly in May 2007. John was passionate about running; he believed that it was a sport for all, no matter what your ability. The canal route was one of his training runs and the last time he ran it he had a phone conversation with Mark about how it would make a great race.
And it does.
