The JW team decided last year (2016) that ten years was a good time to stop running the race. It has been far more successful than we could have imagined. The plan was to run the race once in tribute to John Ward’s policy of inclusion in running so we made it just longer than marathon distance and well supported so that people could try out the distance. The relay was thrown in as an afterthought – this turned out to be a brilliant idea, I would love to say it was mine but it wasn’t. We expected about 30 people to run it and assumed we would know them all.
We would like to thank everyone who ran, and all those who turned out to watch, and the officers and cadets of T.S. Sherbourne who joined us the second year, without them the race might have folded. It was a big part of my life for the last ten years, time i would now like back. Evenings from June to August will now be spent filing my nails.
For those who want to run this distance Stratford Running club are putting on a very similar event on the 16th of September 2017 http://www.srclub.co.uk/index.php/new-race-bridge-to-bridge-via-port
